So, you want to invest in real estate? Here is my advice: Location, location, location. Buy low, sell high. Raise your rents. That’s all I have. Back to the bigger fish I am currently frying. Sorry, this is not a post about real estate. I just realized how important my environment was to my battle, and while thinking through this I said: ‘environment, environment, environment’. This phrase made me think of the real estate mantra: ‘location, location, location’. Yup, my mind works in strange ways, sorry that you have to suffer.
Well, what the hell happened yesterday? I think it has a ton to do with my next post: ‘Feelings, nothing more than feelings.’ (Warning, only click on that link, if you have some other good music to listen to, quickly. It really isn’t needed. So why did I link it? I don’t know, stop judging me.) This applies to yesterday: I did not have the ‘feelings’ needed to be successful at work yesterday. Then, the key: my environment was not setup so that I succeeded in spite of this lack of feelings. I wasn’t motivated, and I then fell back to my environment and failed. Time, lot’s of time, has proven that I will not consistently have the feelings needed to get myself started (at least until I get some momentum going). So, I think I need a slogan like real estate has, but instead of ‘location, location, location’: Environment, environment, environment.
Then along comes Joe from retireby40.org fame. Hi Joe! You rock brother! He posts today about: Create Systems to Accomplish Your Goals. (Did you catch that he posted today, after I was just pondering all of this!) I need a system, I need to set up my environment so that it helps me succeed automatically. I know this works. About 3 years ago I woke up financially and during that first year I put systems in place that have carried me through the next 2 years, with very little ‘thought’ needed. And, it’s worked out splendidly! Read my post if you want details. (If only I ran into Marty McFly, and could go back and do it sooner!).
So, we need to prevent yesterday from happening again. Well, unless I end up in Groundhog Day 2, this shouldn’t be an issue. But, how do I prevent the events/issues of yesterday from happening again? I don’t have time to flush it all out, down to specifics right now. However, I know I need to work on:
- Environment & Systems – I may even separate these, if needed.
- Sleep – Yesterday was after a lower sleep night, coincidence? I don’t know.
- Multitasking – Stop it, stop it, stop it! Just stop it! I’ve turned myself into a distracted giant, always looking for that next distraction. It may take time to turn this ship around.
- Comfort / lack of a threat – I have become content to sit in comfort, and don’t currently have any real threats to this comfort.
- Fear & sabotaging myself – I think these go together, more on this later.
Next, I need to turn these into specifics for my day. If you have anything that has helped you, chime in with a comment!
Note: Katy Perry thinks I am a firework! Don’t believe me? Read the lyrics below, she started singing this to me while I was writing this post. I could defer to the fact that it came up in Daily Mix 3 on Spotify, so I didn’t choose a Katy Perry song. But, I don’t care what you say, it inspired me. I kept playing it until I was done with this post! I even added it to a playlist, so take that! I am a firework!
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what your worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
